3. Ricky Rubio

The Spanish Marvel is what had the Wolves making an 8th seed playoff push last year. Rubio set the Franchise record with 19 assists to go along with 22 points against the Wizards on March 24, 2017.

The sneaky defender and flashy passer is often known for struggling with his shot. In the 2016-17 season, it was much different.  He shot a career-high 40 percent from the field and 89 percent from the free throw line.

He was often the fire starter for the Wolves, who showed up opponents with his jump shot. Also, he was unstoppable on the break, often shooting an outlet to Towns, Wiggins, or LaVine for a transition bucket he was 5th in the NBA in assists per game with 9.1.

Rubio was suspect to trade rumors right around the trade deadline. We didn’t get rid of him and it was for the better. He played absolutely out of his mind after the all-star break and showed why we shouldn’t trade him.

In the month of March, he averaged 17.4 points per game and had 10.4 assists to go along with it. Rubio was playing like we’ve never seen him before and it was poetry in motion. Absolutely wonderful basketball was being played by the Spaniard.

If the “trade” rumors go away (which they won’t) Rubio will be going into his seventh year and will have a lot of pressure on him as he looks to lead the Wolves to a playoff appearance.

If Rubio plays the whole year next year like he did in March and being a little selfish with the ball, there should be no reason that the Wolves would miss the Playoffs.
