Trey Burke
Bogdanovic isn’t the only potentially outgoing Washington Wizard with Timberwolves draft night connections.
As you may recall, Burke was actually drafted by the Wolves ninth-overall in 2013 — Flip Saunders’ first draft night to run as front office boss — and flipped to the Utah Jazz in exchange for the 14th selection, which was Shabazz Muhammad, and the #21 pick, which became Gorgui Dieng. And yes, both Muhammad and Dieng have had better careers than Burke.
Just last summer, the Utah Jazz agreed to ship their prize, top-10 draft pick from 2013 in Burke to the Wizards for a 2021 second-round selection. Talk about pulling the plug.
And in Burke’s sole season in our nation’s capital, he regressed in what was a much smaller role than he was accustomed to playing in Salt Lake City.
Burke averaged just 12.3 minutes per game over 57 contests, all while shooting less three-pointers and free throws and turning the ball over than he ever did in three seasons with the Jazz. He’s been a horrible defender ever since entering the league, which was probably the biggest red flag prior to the 2013 draft. To compound matters, however, he’s shown little offensive growth.

Verdict: Burke is barely a backup point guard, and while he’s still just 24 years old and has some upside, it seems as though his future will likely be as a third-stringer that can bounce around the league for awhile. Think a better-scoring version of Sebastian Telfair. Defense will be the biggest issue, however.
