Pro: Trading back

Draft night can be hectic. Teams trading up or down to get the player that they absolutely can’t live without or to add more picks to their arsenal is common.

If the player that the Wolves want most is gone whenever they get to pick at number seven, maybe they can make a move to trade back in the draft. Or if they decide that Collins is their man, maybe they trade back a few spots to add a few extra picks and still grab him.

The mock drafts that have Collins going the highest are number ten to Sacramento and the ones that have him going the lowest are number thirteen to Denver.

The Wolves are still a young and rebuilding team. If teams like the Kings, Pistons or Nuggets started offering first rounders for next year’s draft, Minnesota would be wise to listen. Teams like Boston and Philadelphia have taken advantage of teams making desperation moves in the past.

If they believe they can still grab Collins with a later pick while picking up picks for the future, it would be a win-win for the franchise.

Teams like the Nuggets and Pistons who hope to make playoff pushes next season could still fall short, giving the Wolves a chance at having a lottery pick next season.

The Nuggets also have interesting pieces such as Danilo Gallinari and Wilson Chandler who could make for interesting trade pieces. Although, Gallinari is reportedly opting out of his contract.

Regardless, if Collins is who they want, the Timberwolves should look into trading back in the draft and pick up other assets along the way.
