1.Johnny Flynn
The biggest draft bust in NBA history for the Minnesota Timberwolves must be when the Timberwolves selected Johnny Flynn with the sixth overall pick in the 2009 NBA draft.
Flynn was selected so highly because of his amazing collegiate career. During his time at Syracuse, Flynn received the honor of Big East Rookie of the year and even Big East Tournament MVP.
Flynn didn’t always seem as if he would become a bust solely based on his rookie season. During his rookie season for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Flynn averaged 13.5 points per game while dishing out 4.4 assists.
This play eventually allowed him to be named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team. Flynn eventually saw a massive drop in his production going into his sophomore season. His numbers dropped to 5.3 points per game and 3.4 assists per game.
Flynn was eventually traded to the Houston Rockets with Donatas Motiejunas in exchange for Brad Miller, the 23rd and 38 picks in the 2011 NBA Draft.
The thing that makes Flynn the biggest bust in Timberwolves draft history is based on the talent drafted after him. All-star point guards such as Jrue Holiday and Jeff Teague were selected at picks 17 and 19.
Most importantly at pick seven, one pick after the Timberwolves, the Golden State Warriors selected Stephen Curry.
Curry has become a multiple time All-Star, two time NBA MVP, probable first ballot hall of famer and a transcending player who is thought to have had a huge impact on the game.
Flynn, on the other hand, played in his last NBA game in 2012.
To say the Timberwolves missed on this draft would be a complete understatement.
