Minnesota Timberwolves: Top 20 draft busts
By Antoine Bass
19. Robbie Hummel
With the 58th pick in the 2012 NBA draft, the Minnesota Timberwolves selected Robbie Hummel.
While Hummel may have been picked 58th his talent rivaled those who were chosen a round ahead of him.
Hummel was a very skilled player offensively who may not have been known for his defense but was very capable on that end as well. Hummel’s biggest asset is his ability to shoot the ball.
Due to his size, Hummel has the ability to play at the power forward in the NBA, his ability to shoot the basketball would be a huge plus for a team. The ability of him to space big men out to the perimeter makes him very versatile and very unique.
The only red flags about Hummel was his well-known history of injuries. Though, the Timberwolves may have been able to get the steal of this draft if Hummel had been able to come to the NBA and escape his history of past injuries.
Sadly, Hummel was not able to defeat his past. Hummel did not get signed to play with the Timberwolves until September 26. 2013.
He was shut down for the season on January 26, 2014. Once again injuries had held back Hummel and he was not able to produce. The Timberwolves eventually parted ways with Hummel.
He began to play overseas later on in his career. On July 13, 2015, Hummel signed a one-year contract with EA7 Emporio Armani Milano.
Though his time was cut short with them after suffering a serious shoulder injury. While Hummel was a very skilled player his nagging injuries eventually haunted him to the point where he isn’t playing in the NBA anymore.
In his time with the Timberwolves Hummel averaged 3.9 points while shooting 34% from downtown.
