Expectations for Next Season

Gorgui Dieng’s expectations for next season is hard to predict. On June 22, when the NBA draft takes place it will be easier to predict. There are two options the Timberwolves can do: 1) draft popular pick at No. 7, Jonathan Isaac. 2) sign a veteran free agent this offseason.

Some veterans that have been linked to the Minnesota Timberwolves are Taj Gibson, Patrick Patterson and Paul Millsap.

All would be great additions to the team as they are veterans who know how to help win games.

As you can see here from Eric Pincus from Basketball Insiders; the Wolves will have around $30 million in cap space.

If the Wolves draft Isaac, then most likely Dieng would remain the starter for about half the season until Isaac has gotten his feet wet. If Isaac succeeds nicely as a rookie, it wouldn’t be out of the ordinary to see Dieng come off the bench and become a sixth man.

If the Wolves added some veterans, the only possible way Gorgui would come off the bench is if they added Paul Millsap. But other players like Gibson and Patterson; would create Dieng to stay n the starting lineup.

Over the offseason he will be adding to his game. Look to see him work on his shot and different moves to use on offense. If Gorgui can add a stronger three-point game to his play, he will be a valuable player. Especially after signing a generous 4 year $64 million contract.
