Minnesota Timberwolves: 5 best draft trades
2014 NBA Draft: Beginning of the New Era.
After the soap opera of frustration between Kevin Love and the Timberwolves front office, things came to a boiling point on August 23, 2014.
Many fans were sad to see Kevin Love go because of how close his teams came to ending the playoff drought in Minnesota. The thing that makes this move a win in favor of the Minnesota Timberwolves happens to be the one they call “Maple Jordan” a.k.a Andrew Wiggins.
The Cleveland Cavaliers acquired Kevin Love in order to help Lebron James chase a few more rings. Many around the NBA still debate if trading the number one overall pick in the NBA draft in 2014 was too steep of a price.
The Minnesota Timberwolves acquired Andrew Wiggins, Anthony Bennett, and Thaddeus Young in a three-team trade with the Cavs and the Philadelphia 76ers. The Timberwolves sent Alexey Shved and Luc Richard Mbah a Moute to Philadelphia.
In the short-term, this trade has paid dividends for the Cleveland Cavaliers in the form of three straight NBA Finals appearances and one championship. However, in the long run, Andrew Wiggins may end up being one of the league’s most dominant players for years to come.
In his rookie season, Wiggins won the rookie of the year award, establishing his high ceiling and scoring ability. Andrew Wiggins has continued to show why he may be the next big thing in the league averaging 23.6 points per game this last season.
Andrew Wiggins consistently shines alongside the rest of the promising young core, and currently, helps lead the pack. One thing is for certain, the Minnesota Timberwolves will be active in this years NBA draft. When it comes to the seventh pick anything can happen.
