Minnesota Timberwolves: 5 bold predictions for 2017 NBA Draft
3. Jonathan Isaac is gone by No. 7
Jonathan Isaac is this year’s prospect who every fan is in love with. Fans and team personnel are enamored with the potential of Isaac’s size, length and shooting ability as a compliment to the Timberwolves’ core.
If Isaac becomes everything we hope he can be, he would truly become the perfect blend of need and talent for the Timberwolves with their seventh overall selection. Unfortunately, other teams are beginning to fall in love with Isaac as well.
John Hammond, the new General Manager of the Orlando Magic, is known for having an obsession with length. He has drafted Giannis Antetokounmpo (7-foot-3 wingspan), Thon Maker (7-foot-3), Malcolm Brogdon (6-foot-10) and Jabari Parker (6-foot-11), among others.
The Magic also have the sixth selection, which is one spot before the Wolves are slated to pick. Even though Isaac isn’t a great fit with Orlando, he might be the best player on the board when their time is up. He’s also versatile enough where they can find a spot for him in their rotation.
I’m not predicting that Orlando will be the team that drafts Isaac in the end. However, they pose the biggest threat to Minnesota’s chances of acquiring the lengthy freshman out of Florida State.
Whoever ends up with him on draft day, will walk away as happy campers.
