4.  A baffling David Kahn draft move.

And here we go… David Kahn time.  When Kahn was hired the Minnesota Timberwolves were headed in a new direction.  However, many Wolves fans didn’t see the oncoming Titanic collapse that would soon be known as the David Kahn regime.

Bare with me on this trade because it is astounding how many bad choices this man was able to make over the course of one night, and I’m not talking about the 2009 draft…yet.

On the NBA draft night in 2011, David Kahn decided to part ways with the disappointing Jonny Flynn.  Two years after drafting Flynn over the likes of Steph Curry, DeMar DeRozan, and others, Flynn was moved to the Houston Rockets.

The initial trade meant that Houston would receive Jonny Flynn, draft rights to the 20th pick Dontas Montiejunas, and a 2012 second round pick.

In return, the Timberwolves got Brad Miller, a future first-round pick and the draft rights to newly selected rookies Nikola Mirotic and Chandler Parsons.

What a good move!  Jonny Flynn for Mirotic and Parsons was a huge steal in hindsight.  However, David Kahn wasn’t done dismantling what would have been a good trade.

Next, Kahn turned around and shipped Nikola Mirotic to the Chicago Bulls in exchange for the rights to Norris Cole.  Before wasting anytime Norris Cole was moved to Miami for the rights to Bojan Bogdanovic, a 2014 second round pick, and cash.

Wait there’s more.  Bojan Bogdanovic was immediately traded to New Jersey, and the Timberwolves received another future second-round pick and cash.

As if all of this wasn’t bad enough, the worst was yet to come.  Remember how Chandler Parsons was sent to the Timberwolves as part of the initial Houston trade?  David Kahn then sent the Parsons pick back to Houston for cash considerations only.

You really can’t make these things up.
