Minnesota Timberwolves final Big Board
4. Zach Collins
Zach Collins has been receiving the least amount of buzz as the Timberwolves pick. However, we can’t completely discount him because anything is possible. Especially in the pressure-packed draft room where the franchise’s future hangs in the balance.
Collins is a freshman out of Gonzaga who played sparingly during his only year in college. However, those numbers, when spread out over 40 minutes, become elite. Per 40 minutes, Collins averaged 23.2 points, 13.6 rebounds and 4.1 blocks.
The question is, whether Collins is ready and able to contribute when given extended minutes
That question mark has somewhat impacted his draft stock as he is currently projected to go around the 10 range.
For the Timberwolves, there is also the question about how Collins would fit on the roster and most importantly, how he would fit alongside Karl-Anthony Towns.
His best position is probably at center which means that he wouldn’t necessarily fit with Towns. Gorgui Dieng best position is probably also center, which creates a logjam at that position.
If the Wolves believe he can play power forward and be successful at it, they might be enticed to take him at number seven.
Otherwise, they will likely pass on him for other options.
