Minnesota Timberwolves: 5 reasons they should’ve drafted Terrance Ferguson
5. The league is moving away from two bigs
In a world of pace, space, and threes for days, playing with two traditional bigs is seemingly a way of the past. Looking at the teams which were successful this season, they predominately played with one big and spacing around them.
Before the Butler trade, you could conceive a thought process of ‘just because it works now, doesn’t mean it will work in a few years’. However, post-Butler trade, the Timberwolves want to start winning now. Not a few years down the track.
Furthermore, a lot of the work is already done; Karl-Anthony Towns is the perfect big for the modern NBA. Pairing him with traditional big limits what he can do. As good as Towns it, and trust me, he is unbelievable. Finding a player to combine with the ‘unicorn’ skillset almost requires a player who is as unique.
Whilst it has been the style of coach, Tom Thibodeau to play with two bigs, it is something that we should be trying to move away from. If the Wolves want to win now, then they should look to adapt to the current competition.
