Minnesota Timberwolves: Cheap free agents (part 2)
5. Gerald Henderson
Gerald Henderson actually has a good case to be higher on this list. A lot higher.
Last season he averaged 9.2 points on 42.3 percent shooting, including 35.3 percent from behind the arc for the Philadelphia 76ers.
At 29 years old, Henderson can still contribute off the bench for a team, especially a team like Minnesota who doesn’t have any other options.
The former Duke product can bring some outside shooting to the table, although it may not be comparable to Brandon Rush. Henderson is a career 32.7 percent shooter from the 3-point line but has shot over 35 percent the last two years.
The shooting guard does bring more athletic ability than Rush did and isn’t a complete liability on defense. For his career, Henderson has accrued 9.6 defensive win shares, including 7.1 the past four seasons.
Henderson’s also a guy who has only been to the playoffs twice in his eight-year career. This might motivate him to sign with a team like the Wolves who seem destined to make it back to playoff basketball.
If Thibodeau does bring him over, expect it to be on a minimum deal which would pay him $2,106,470 this year.
