Minnesota Timberwolves: Cheap free agents (part 2)
3. Luc Richard Mbah a Moute
Luc Richard Mbah a Moute is one of the very few players on this list who isn’t necessarily a wing. Even though Thibodeau said he’s looking for shooting, I wouldn’t be surprised for him to give Mbah a Moute an extended look.
As defensive minded as Thibs is, the Prince will definitely catch his eye given his versatility and lock-down ability.
At 6-foot-8, this forward can basically guard anybody outside of point guards and centers. And even with points, he can effectively switch on them for short periods on pick and rolls.
Last season, Mbah a Moute started 76 games for the Los Angeles Clippers and posted 1.8 defensive win shares and 1.6 defensive box plus/ minus.
Offensive is a much bigger struggle for Mbah a Moute. Last season he did shoot 39.1 percent from the 3-point line but he’s only a career 32 percent shooter over his career. That 32 percent is also a little deceiving as it comes on less than one attempt per game.
Defenses are able to collapse on the Prince and not have to worry about him hurting them.
Timberwolves fans, you probably already knew all this, however, as he played in Minnesota during the 2013-14 season.
Given the former UCLA’s defensive prowess, Thibs will be hard pressed to ignore him for much longer.
