Minnesota Timberwolves: Cheap free agents (part 2)
2. Mike Dunleavy
Mike Dunleavy has been rumored to be connected to the Timberwolves for some time.
It’s not hard to figure out where the connection comes from as Dunleavy is yet another former Chicago Bull that Thibs has high praise for.
Dunleavy Played in Chicago for two years under the President of Basketball Operations and was very successful. Dunleavy shot over 38 percent from downtown each season well averaging over 9.4 points per game as well.
At 36 years old, Dunleavy’s play has slipped a little bit as he only averaged 5.2 points per game last season while splitting time between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Atlanta Hawks.
If he were to come to Minnesota, expect the 15-year veteran to play a limited role off the bench. He’s still a great shooter and would help tremendously with the Wolves spacing.
Defensively, however, Thibodeau would have to get creative and figure out how to hide the forward. At 6-foot-9, he’s tall enough to guard multiple positions but you’ll want him on the other teams weakest offensive player.
At this point, Dunleavy isn’t in any hurry to sign a contract as he seeks something above the veteran’s minimum. However, if he does come to Minnesota it will be for $2,328,652, the veteran’s minimum.
