Minnesota Timberwolves: Cheap free agents (part 2)
1. Ty Lawson
Ty Lawson could make a complete circle with his career by arriving with the Wolves in free agency.
Lawson was originally selected by Minnesota with the 18th overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft. Being that he was the third point guard the Wolves selected, however, they quickly moved him to the Denver Nuggets for a 2010 first round pick.
The point guard looked as if he was going to thrive in Denver, averaging 14.2 points and 6.6 assists in six seasons with the team. For a while there, it looked as if Minnesota had traded the best point guard they drafted in 2009.
Then, for whatever reason, Lawson’s play went downhill dramatically as he hasn’t averaged 10 points per game since the 2014-15 season.
Last year was a min-revitalization in Sacramento as the UNC product averaged 9.9 points and 4.8 assists per game.
While Lawson will never be a great outside shooter, he can be a scorer and creator for his teammates, something you can never have enough of.
He would provide a great boost to the bench if he came to Minnesota as he’d give the second unit another scoring option.
