Minnesota Timberwolves: Five Goals for Jeff Teague
4. Improve 3-point shooting.
One of the legitimate worries about the Jeff Teague signing among fans was his 3-point percentage.
It’s no secret that Minnesota is lacking a punch from behind the arc. Many fans were hoping to see a point guard with a more reliable deep ball in order to spread the floor more efficiently.
A thorn in past Timberwolves teams has been the lack of shooting from the point guard position. If Teague wants to prove those doubters wrong the best way to do it is improve his 3-point shooting as a whole.
According to Basketball Reference, Teague has a cumulative 3-point percentage of .35.5 percent over the course of his career. To put this in perspective Twons, Wiggins, Jones and Dieng all had a better 3-point percentage last year alone.
However, Jeff Teague has had seasons in the past where his three point percentage was pretty solid. Two seasons ago he shot 40 percent from behind the arc, but last season those numbers dipped down to 35 percent.
Inconsistency with his three point shooting is one of the only major knocks on Teague’s game.
If Teague can emulate the season where he shot 40 percent from behind the arc he will be making a huge difference right away. This should be an area of focus for Jeff this offseason as he gets ready to make his mark with Minnesota.
It’s not as if Teague is a bad shooter because his mid range game is stellar. His cumulative field goal percentage is almost ten percent better at .447 for his career. Teague is a good shooter, he just needs to work on his range.
At least Teague has a good shooting touch to work with as a basis for improvement.
Whatever ends up happening there is no doubt that his personal goal to help the team will be to increase his deep ball accuracy.
