Minnesota Timberwolves: Ranking the contracts
10. Taj Gibson
Signed Contract: 2-year/$28,000,000
Taj Gibson is a great defender who will be a much-needed addition to this team.
Unfortunately, he averaged 0.8 blocks this past season, but over his eight-year career he’s averaged 1.2.
Undoubtedly, he is a defensive minded big. But he does lack offensive game.
Most of his points will come around the rim, as he averaged 10.8 points a game this past season. But his greatest weakness? Shooting.
You won’t see Gibson pulling up from three this season, and if you did it’s because he has to take a last second shot. The Timberwolves struggled with spacing and 3-point shooting so all he does is add more fuel to that fire.
He’s a valuable player to have on any team. He’s a smart player that will get rebounds, play hard 100 percent of the time, play defense and get others involved.
I like the addition of him to this team because I think it’ll be another voice on the court teaching coach Thibs philosophies.
But at $14 million a season, it seems a little too high. Especially after seeing a player like Patrick Patterson take a 3-year/$16,354,800 deal. Not to mention the team has two power forwards being paid $14 million.
Good player and signing, but would have liked to see the contract cut down a bit.
