Top 5 rebounders in Timberwolves history
#2 – Karl-Anthony Towns
Putting Towns on the list as the second-best rebounder in Timberwolves history may sound like blasphemy, but anyone who has witnessed the man in action knows he has the potential to top KG as the franchise’s all-time leading rebounder in terms of sheer numbers.
During Towns’ rookie season, he averaged 10.5 boards per contest. In his sophomore campaign, he upped that average to 12.3. At the height of his career, Kevin Garnett averaged 13.9 rebounds per game in 2003-04, the same season he won the MVP crown. However, during Garnett’s first two seasons in the league, he averaged 6.3 rebounds and 8.0, respectively. So, theoretically, Towns is on pace to beat KG’s record and maybe put his name among the top ten of all-time.
It is largely a matter of health, sustaining early success, and playing with the intensity his former mentor preached before his retirement. The talent level is absolutely there, but can the rest of the pieces fall into place?
