First reaction to new Timberwolves jersey design…
The Minnesota Timberwolves have finally ended the anticipation with the unveiling of their new jerseys on Thursday morning. They released the Icon and the Association editions with two jerseys still to come in the coming months.
Here is the video of that the team used to announce their new jerseys:
Here is a simple look at the two jerseys:
The team implemented a bright green in their color palette but the new jerseys don’t include much, outside of the tiny green triangle at the bottom of the shorts. You can clearly see this on Andrew Wiggins leaked picture on Instagram yesterday.
The absence of green is a little odd, seeing as how they hyped up the new color addition but failed to add it into the jersey tops.
It looks like the Timberwolves decided to go simple with the first two designs. Nothing really pops out like the Atlanta Hawks jerseys did with their neon yellow look. However, it does look relatively similar to the Washington Wizards jerseys.
Grade: C
They aren’t awful, but it was sort of a let down. They failed to add more green – which is a big missed opportunity in my opinion. But, I will say that they do look clean. It isn’t anything too busy, but they are simple and to the point where they look crisp. Especially with the addition with the simple bar across the jersey.
In a way, it looks somewhat retro but somehow at the same time it had a modern look. Which is unique and something many teams can’t say they have. So on that note – I really think they nailed that look.
Over time, I think many people, including myself, will come around to this new look. I think when the players are wearing them on the new court and hopefully winning, fans will start to love the jerseys. I will say that it’s even growing on me as I write this up.
By the time I’m done with this article, I may go back and change that grade to a ‘B’.
When Do The Next Two Jerseys Come Out?
Here is a post from the Timberwolves PR Twitter account explaining the jerseys released and when they will be going on sale. In the post, it shows that the next two will be coming out in the ‘coming months’.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they decided to come out with an all-green jersey like many have anticipated from the leak on NBA 2K18. In fact, I would be shocked at this point if they didn’t add that jersey.
The fourth design…well, we don’t have any direction on that as of yet. It could be something completely off the wall, more of a throwback, or something like the black alternate jerseys that the team has had for much of the past 21 years.
