Minnesota Timberwolves: More signings are coming eventually
The Minnesota Timberwolves burst into the offseason with a major draft night trade for Jimmy Butler, and some signings soon into free agency. With three roster spots still remaining in the T-Wolves’ lineup, why the delay in bringing some more talent to Minnesota?
The Minnesota Timberwolves’ offseason has changed the look in Minnesota basketball. We’ve seen stable names such as Ricky Rubio, Zach LaVine and Nikola Pekovic moved on. We’ve welcomed Jimmy Butler, Jamal Crawford, Jeff Teague and Taj Gibson into the fold. We used our first two-way contract to give another Anthony Brown a chance in the NBA, whilst strengthening the new Iowa Wolves. Melo Trimble has come on board with a partially-guaranteed deal, and then Marcus Georges-Hunt was given a training camp deal to prove his worth.
We’ve welcomed new jerseys for our new era of Minnesota basketball, and have been highly -projected as a playoff-caliber team this upcoming season.
Yet despite all of this, the Timberwolves still have four open roster spots.
Where these will go is anyone’s guess, yet rumors have been swirling that the Timberwolves are trying to resign Shabazz Muhammad, whose rights they renounced earlier this year. There’s also the extremely unlikely Kyrie Irving trade, despite every NBA fan seeming certain their team has the best shot to sign the Cavaliers guard.
There are still a number of suitable free agents on the market, yet the Timberwolves need players willing to sign veteran minimum contracts, something they may not wish to do for a few weeks longer.

Chances are, the Timberwolves are targeting the best free agents they can land, and those free agents are most likely chasing the most money they can.
With training camps starting at the end of September, they still have plenty of time to fill out their roster spots, and the free agents will come once they decide they’ll settle for the minimum, perhaps on a one year deal to prove they’re worth more.
The Timberwolves certainly need shooting and an outside shooter will be a top priority for Tom Thibodeau.
