Kevin Garnett’s return to Minnesota is number one in our hearts, so why not make it official?
Both Thaddeus Young and Garnett were set to become free agents during the summer of 2015. Therefore, it made the most sense for these teams to swap forwards.
The Nets were coming off their awful trade for Garnett and Paul Pierce that’s still ruining their franchise today. They tried to save face in any way possible by sending The Franchise back to his original team.
Minnesota knew they were in the midst of a rebuild, so why not re-acquire your franchise’s biggest star ever? On the court, the players weren’t very equal at this point in their respective careers. However, off the court, it was a public relations dream.
Garnett, as we all know, finished this season and the next with Minnesota before walking away into the sunset. He only appeared in 43 games for the team, starting all of them, but his reach went far beyond his in-game impact.
He was often seen coaching up the younger players, especially a stud rookie Karl-Anthony Towns. Some of Towns incredible and rapid growth may even be attributed to the time spent with Garnett.
