Are the final Timberwolves’ jersey designs unveiling this month?
The Minnesota Timberwolves have revealed three of their four new jersey designs for the upcoming season. With Nike taking the reigns, and the Timberwolves undergoing a complete redesign, the jerseys have undergone massive changes. Yet, us Timberwolves fans are still awaiting news of the fourth and final jersey design, but is it arriving closer than we think?
So far we’ve seen three designs for the new Minnesota Timberwolves’ jerseys. First, we saw the dark Icon Edition jersey and the contrasting light Association Edition jersey. The styles introduced a college-esque look for the Nike takeover, but showed promise and direction. Just recently we welcomed the Statement Jerseys, the most visible in the league. The bright design certainly makes a statement.
So when will the fourth and final Timberwolves’ jersey be unveiled to the public?
When reading an article on NBA.com about the new Nike ‘connected’ jerseys, there is a line that reads:
"These jerseys become online globally on Sept. 29."
The promo photos seem to show a number of players from a number of teams wearing their basic jerseys, the ones that most resemble we’re used to seeing from the last few years under Adidas. This would lead you to believe that either the Icon or Association jersey would be available for the Timberwolves, in line with the other teams.
But this is where it gets interesting for the Wolves.
Both in the above video, and the previously mentioned promo photos, Nike seems to have gone to lengths to NOT reveal which Timberwolves jersey is being released with the ‘connected jersey’ functionality on the 29th. While this may be nothing at all, it seems strange to keep the team that Nike has had the biggest hand in transforming the look of this offseason in a jacket, whilst everybody else is showing off their new jersey.
This leads me to believe that the fourth and final Timberwolves design could be coming before September 29th, when it may go on sale online as a ‘connected jersey’.
Further in the article, there’s a line that reads:
"All Statement Edition jerseys will be available at retail on Nov. 20, and will begin being worn on-court on Nov. 25."
That rules out the Statement Edition jerseys. It still very much could be the Icon or Association jerseys, and just a smart marketing technique from Nike getting fans like myself to dig deeper into the promo and build excitement in myself and those around me for the reveal.

However, I’d like to believe we will be seeing the fourth and final design this month. If in line with the rest of the jerseys, it could be one of the most interesting of the Timberwolves’ designs yet. The designs of the other teams publicised for the ‘connected jerseys’ are all very similar to the Adidas jerseys we’ve seen over the past few years, which would lead you to believe that the Minnesota design would be similar. However, the Timberwolves have highly publicised their complete jersey redesign, which could also imply that even a jersey that could be considered their most basic, or similar to last years’, could be a complete makeover for the Wolves.
Whether the final jersey is similar to last years or not, I’m expecting it to be black in color. The Wolves, of course, have had a number of black jerseys, both from the Kevin Garnett era to the black jersey last season, that we may see crop back up in the Nike range.
At the end of the day, it’s still a mystery as to when we will see the fourth and final Timberwolves’ jersey design, however, Sep. 29 is certainly a date I’ll be keeping my eye on. Even if the Wolves’ connected jersey that will become available isn’t the fourth design, Minnesota fans will finally be able to get their hands on the Timberwolves’ jerseys of the new-era. It will also be fans’ first chance to grab an official Timberwolves playing jersey with Butler, Gibson, Crawford or Teague on the back, among others.

Hopefully, we are treated to the fourth Timberwolves’ jersey design sooner rather than later, seeing as the wait has already been tough enough. I expect the Wolves to make the wait worth it once we see what they have in store for us with the fourth and final jersey.
