Minnesota Timberwolves: 5 takeaways from media day
2. Winning
13-years and counting… for now. That is how long the Wolves have gone since their last playoff game. This is the longest drought in the NBA, currently.
There is a lot of buzz surrounding the idea of breaking the drought and making the playoffs this year. Coaches, players, NBA analysts and fans have all started to realize that this might be the year. When Minnesota traded for All-Star Butler, that is when more players were reluctant to sign here.
Thib’s is certainly tired of losing.
We know Muhammad re-signed with Minnesota because he wants to win and believed that they are a winning team. Jimmy Butler said, “at the end of the day, I just want to win”. Towns, when talking about winning says, “it’s always been about winning”.
Perhaps the most moving quote of the day came from Towns:
"I made a promise to Flip Saunders that I would win and end the playoff drought, and I intend to do that."
That is some powerful thing to say, especially when talking about late legend Saunders.
Throughout the day you could feel the itch to get back out there and prove to everyone that Minnesota can be a winning ball club. The biggest question is whether or not they can all build chemistry.
If they can figure out how to get everyone involved, and play team-ball; then I believe they have enough talent to lock a top-five seed in the Western Conference. You can get the feel from the players today that the wait is all but over.
