The Minnesota Timberwolves are entering the most hyped season in franchise history. Or at least in the past 14 years. The bandwagon is filling up fast as everyone and their mom is suddenly announcing their lifetime of love for the

These expectations and artificial affection blossom from the acquisition of one of the top 10-15 two-way players in the game today, Jimmy Butler. He has immediately turned the Wolves into a contender for home-court advantage during the first round of the playoffs.

Roster holdovers Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns will also have an immense say on whether that happens.

Entering their second year with head coach Tom Thibodeau, the two youngsters are supposed to take a leap on the defensive end of the court. While both players are immensely talented, their effort level has waxed and waned when it comes to getting stops. In the end, they might not have a choice, as Butler will likely drag them, kicking and crying, to defensive excellence.

For any normal human being, it’s nearly impossible to say how the season will play out. We only make fools of ourselves when we try to predict the future, as there are so many unforeseen events and outcomes we never thought conceivable
