Point Guard: Steph Curry vs. Jeff Teague
While the numbers between Jeff Teague and Steph Curry might be closer than some thought they would be early in the season, this is an instance where numbers do lie.
According to basketball-reference.com, Curry has had a negative plus-minus in two of his four games so far, including a -10 on the road against Memphis. Teague, on the other hand, has only posted a negative plus-minus once this season and that was against the Spurs, where most everyone on the Wolves played poorly.
One category the two-time MVP has an advantage in is true shooting percentage. Through the start of this season, the Wolves floor general has a modest 59.9 percent true shooting percentage. Curry has, with one more game under his belt, a much higher percentage at 69.2. For a comparison, LeBron James true shooting percentage is just a tick LOWER at 67.8 percent.
The former Davidson star is also leading in another important category for point guards: turnovers. His turnover percentage has been under 10 percent three out of his first four games with a whopping 22 percent coming in his latest game against Dallas. That averages out to 11.2 percent per game. The former Wake Forest Demon Deacon has a 16.3 turnover percentage average through three games.
The most important thing to consider in this debate is the easiest to comprehend: the eye test.
Curry is the more electrifying player. He has the ability to shoot the ball from anywhere. His court vision is incredible. He knows how to start a run and kill momentum for the other team. He is a top-five player in the NBA and clearly the better point guard.
Plus, his mouth guard throwing skills are on point.
