Timberwolves Takeaways: Halloween trick-or-treat edition

The Wolves Bench: Trick or Treat?
Trick. There’s a hole in our pillowcase, and candy is spilling out. We better figure out how to stitch it up.
There are definitely some bright spots on the Wolves bench to be excited about. Jamal Crawford has provided an offensive spark, scoring roughly 10 points per game and hitting almost half of his 3-point attempts, including a game-winner against the Utah Jazz. Nemanja Bjelica has also been lights-out from 3-point land and led the team in 3-point percentage at 58.8 percent going into last night’s game (in which he hit one of two).
Overall, however, the Timberwolves’ bench has not been particularly impressive. Tyus Jones has yet to definitely show us why he deserves the backup PG spot (although last night’s game was a step in the right direction). Gorgui Dieng hasn’t been much of a presence in the paint, and he has only blocked one shot through seven games. Then there’s Shabazz Muhammed, who just hasn’t brought much energy into the game.
All in all, the Wolves’ bench has been underwhelming so far this season. That being said, I still think Tyus Jones is going to have a breakout game in the near future. Plus, we already know that Gorgui Dieng and Shabazz Muhammed are capable of much more than they’ve shown thus far.
It’s still early, but let’s hope they find their stride soon.
