Only 12 NBA team fanbases were included in FanSided’s Fandom 250, a ranking of the top fanbases, both in and out of sports. The Minnesota Timberwolves were one of the 12.

Timberwolves fans, you did it.

Well, actually, your job isn’t done. While the Timberwolves fanbase made it onto FanSided’s Fandom 250 list as one of just 12 NBA fanbases included, there’s still some ranking to be done.

The latest version of the ranking will not be released until December 12th, so there’s time to make your voice heard. Head to FanSided’s NBA ranking page and slot in your Wolves (and yourself, technically, since you’re no doubt part of said fanbase) wherever you think they should rank in comparison to the other 11 NBA franchises that made the list.

A case for Timberwolves fans being ranked highly is quite simple, really.

This franchise hasn’t played a playoff game since 2004. The last time the Timberwolves appeared in the postseason, it was before George W. Bush was reelected to a second term, and well before Barack Obama was a name on the national stage. The New England Patriots dynasty was only beginning, although that year’s Super Bowl halftime performance was memorable for…reasons that changed how live television is broadcast. And, believe it or not, it was LeBron James‘ rookie year.

That’s 13 years of futility, folks. And, more likely than not, you made it through them all.

Die-hard Wolves fans are a different breed of NBA fan. I mean, you were fans before we could even dream of NBA League Pass, which at least allowed you to flip to more, shall we say, easily-digestible basketball in recent years when Minnesota was winning 15, 16, or 17 games. (Yes, the Timberwolves won 17 games or less three times since the Kevin Garnett glory days, and had 26 or less wins three additional times during that span.)

Wolves fans have made it this far, and it’s time to accept their place among the top fanbases in the country.

And really, it’s perfect timing for the die-hards to accept their spot before the fanbase grows.

Next: The luxury of the Timberwolves' lineup versatility

Bandwagoners are coming, after all, but the Wolves fans who have been there and are now ranked in the top-12 in the NBA and the top-250 in the country across sports and pop culture are ready to accept their recognition.
