Minnesota Timberwolves: Top 5 Karl-Anthony Towns dunks
By Max Neuhaus
5. Serge Ibaka
I wrestled with this one for a little while. I went back and forth between this dunk and the slam Towns had over Mirza Teletovic. Just in case you forgot, it was this one:
In the end, the deciding factor was that Serge Ibaka is more of a shot-blocker, so KAT trying to throw one down on him was risky. It had the potential to end up with the Oklahoma City Thunder on a fast break and Ibaka giving the Dikembe Mutombo finger wag on his way down the court.
One of the most impressive parts of this dunk is that he didn’t even have control of the ball when he jammed it on Ibaka. It is tough enough to make someone into a poster when you have control of the ball. When you rewatch the jam (as if you need an excuse to watch it again), Towns basically just guides the ball in.
Another great part of the slam is he put Russell Westbrook in the poster as well. While he was not directly dunking on the reigning MVP, Westbrook did go for the block from behind and that made him part of the play.
The cherry on top is that this was against an opponent that has gotten the better of us over and over. With their combo of Westbrook and Kevin Durant for years and the MVP season Russ had last season, it has been hard for the Wolves to get the better of OKC. Right there, if just for one play, Minnesota had a moment to celebrate and flex some muscle.
For entry number four, we move from a team that the Timberwolves know very well to a player…because he used to be one of them.
