Minnesota Timberwolves Power Rankings: Bench hierarchy is solidifying
10. Shabazz Muhammad (10)
Season stats: 12.8 MPG – 4.3 PPG – 1.7 RPG – 0.4 APG -38.8% FG – 12.5% 3PT – 64.3% FT
Weekly stats: 9.8 MPG – 4.8 PPG – 1.8 RPG – 0.3 APG – 43.8% FG – 28.6% 3PT – 75% FT
It was another poor week for Shabazz Muhammad,as the exterior cries for Marcus Georges-Hunt or Anthony Brown to replace him completely.
Like last week, Muhammad managed to raise his points per game and his field goal percentage, but it wasn’t enough to overcome his awful defense and inability to shoot or pass adequately.
Bazz did finally see his first 3-point basket tickle the twine, as he made two long range baskets this week.
Although the 3-point makes are nice to see from Muhammad, who has struggled mightily to find his stroke this season, his 1.8 attempts per game this week in under 10 minutes are probably still too many, considering how poorly he has stroked it from outside the arc this season.
Even after his season-high nine points against the Spurs in Minnesota, Bazz still ended up with the worst defensive rating for any Wolves player who stepped on to the court that night (113.2).
With pressure building and his minutes dropping by the week, Shabazz Muhammad will need to start playing better – at least on his favored offensive side – if he wants to continue playing minutes in Timberwolves colors.
Not only is Bazz the worst ranking Wolf in the majority of the 2017-18 power rankings, he is also ranking as one of the worst players in the league at this point of the season.
We know Muhammad is capable of more, but he needs to show it … fast.
