No. 5: Ricky Rubio jokes with child courtside in Utah

In January of 2014, the Timberwolves were beating the Jazz by 23 points with just a few minutes left in the third quarter.

Rubio takes advantage of an Alexey Shved nosebleed and distracted fans and media by playing catch with this young girl. Instead of focusing on the gore on the floor, the attention was on the improvised play between one of the NBA’s greatest passers and a young child.

Rubio provides a moment of levity to the fans and delivers a great memory for this little girl. Plus, I’ll bet she’s excited to have Rubio playing in a Jazz uniform. The next time they have a nosebleed timeout, maybe he’ll pass the ball to her again.

Timberwolves finished the 2013-14 NBA season with 40 wins and 42 losses which were the third best in the Northwest Division but not good enough to make the playoffs in what was Rick Adelman’s last season as coach.

Flip Saunders was running the front office and Adelman coaching the team that included Kevin Love, Corey Brewer, Dante Cunningham, Kevin Martin and J.J. Barea. Shabazz Muhammad and Gorgui Dieng are the only two remaining players still around from a season that didn’t end in laughter.

Thanks Ricky for delivering this smiling moment on the floor!
