No. 4: Karl-Anthony Towns and Zach LaVine’s playful banter during a postgame interview

Timberwolves went on to end the 2015-16 with a 29-53 (.354), 13th in Western Conference. President of Basketball Operations and Coach Flip Saunders passed away tragically before the season which resulted in an underlying sadness for the entire state of Minnesota, any moments of laughter were needed.

The tragedy resulted in Sam Mitchell receiving the nod to lead the team which surely wasn’t’ the way he’d hoped to return to the NBA as a head coach. As a player, Sam had been coached by Flip for seven seasons and after retirement went on to be an assistant with Bucks and head coach with the Toronto Raptors, then a two-year assistant role stint with Nets before returning to Minnesota as Flip’s top assistant. In addition, Sam was one of Kevin Garnett’s most important mentors and likely played a role in KG deciding not to return, based on his woebegone feelings about Sam being relieved of his duties.

Distracting the team with moments of jocularity was important, and healing medicine that season.

Zach LaVine begins the Fox Northwest interview describing the victory when Karl Anthony Towns with a Herman Munster type look is seen lurking in the background. LaVine pulls Towns into the interview and he mockingly plays Zach’s sidekick partner and things unravel from that point.

LaVine ended last season with a serious ACL injury that required surgery and months of physical therapy. He was part of three assets traded to the Chicago Bulls that resulted in Jimmy Butler and Justin Patton joining the Wolves.

LaVine was recently cleared by the Bulls to begin to take contact during practice and is expected to return to the Bulls by mid-December. The Bulls will enjoy having his playful spirit on the court and in the locker room.

Timberwolves take on the Bulls in Chicago on Feb. 9, which is almost one year from when Zach LaVine was injured. Zach will have this game circled on his calendar and be dreaming of a post-game interview.

Now that they’re on opposing teams will we see a photobomb type post-game interview moment by Karl or Zach at the end of this game?
