Post up

Ahh, the post up. The one play most Wolves fans oddly clamor for more of.

While there’s always room to go up, there isn’t very much in this category. The Timberwolves rank 9th in the league by running the post up 8.8 possessions per game. However, given the frequency at which they score maybe they should look at calling a post up every time down the floor.

Surprisingly, Gibson has the best post up numbers on the team, as he’s averaging 1.13 PPP and is knocking down 66.7 percent of his field goal attempts (I should add he posts up less than one time per game).

Towns, who posts up 12th most times per game, definitely has room to continue going to the block. For context, Joel Embiid leads the league by posting up 9.9 times per game.

Towns incredible ability to hit his defender with a multitude of moves ensures the defense is always on their heel. Whether it be a one-foot fadeaway, a face-up, or a hook shot he has a plethora of options to choose from.

Despite his lack of strength down low, Towns can get to a pretty decent position most of the time. Even when he fails to get to a great spot on the floor his skill trumps any defender.

Feeding the post is always difficult to do especially on a guard-oriented team. However, it would likely be beneficial for Minnesota to continue feeding Big KAT down low.
