Minnesota Timberwolves Power Rankings: KAT loses his crown
3. Andrew Wiggins (3)
Season stats: 36.8 MPG – 18.9 PPG – 4.1 RPG – 1.8 APG – 45.5% FG – 31.7% 3PT – 62.5% FT
Weekly stats: 40.0 MPG – 19.7 PPG – 4.7 RPG – 2.7 APG – 42.6% FG – 38.5% 3PT – 66.7% FT
With his minutes on the rise, Andrew Wiggins continued to perform at a rock solid – if not spectacular – rate.
Wiggins used this week to show us that the flaws in his game are being worked on, rebounding at a higher rate, dropping some dimes and still playing some respectable defense. Something that Wiggins didn’t have in his bag of tricks any other season before this one (I spoke about Wiggins improving defense here).
Wiggins scored no fewer than 18 points in each of the three games this week, scoring over 20 twice. The hot streak isn’t new for Wiggins, but his final game of the week against Phoenix did have some new wrinkles in it that will excite Timberwolves and NBA fans alike.
Wiggins burst out of his 3-point slump, burying 4-6 from behind the arc. Maple Jordan also chipped in 5 rebounds and handed out 4 assists, a good sign for Wiggins as he is averaging under 2 helpers per game on the season.
Wiggins weekly Defensive Rating of 106.5 was one of the main reasons he was able to compile an excellent +15.6 Net Rating.
Wiggins’ 3-point shooting was expected to keep improving this season, but so far it has been the polar opposite, Wiggins has watched under a third of his long-balls tickle the twine this season.
If Wiggins can keep progressing like he has in his hustle and supporting stats while getting the buckets that we are so used to seeing from the Canadian star.
