Bad news, Wolves fans. After an icon on the Timberwolves’ schedule early last month indicated a Dec. 25 debut for the Wolves’ fourth and final jersey design, things seem to have taken a turn for the worst.

Minnesota Timberwolves’ fans have been waiting a long time for the reveal of the final jersey design, after the new redesign under Nike brought forth a new appearance for our Wolves. The Icon and Association editions are all the fans have been treated to seeing on the court so far this season, and I must say they’ve looked pretty good.

The Timberwolves cast their eyes (and sunglasses) on the Statement edition jerseys earlier this year, however we’ll have to wait until Dec. 16 against Phoenix to finally see them in action.

We have yet to catch a glimpse of the fourth and final jersey design, and amidst multitudes of speculation (including from myself), fans have no clue just what the jersey will look like.

Things were looking up early last month, when I noticed the handy jersey indicator on the Timberwolves schedule had the debut for the final jersey design slated for the Christmas Day matchup against the Lakers. However upon checking again a month later, plans seem to have changed.

The Timberwolves are now listed as wearing their Icon edition jerseys on Christmas Day, which we have already seen plenty throughout the year. While it would be nice to get the fourth jersey design, a dedicated Christmas jersey, or even just a lesser-worn jersey for the sake of a special occasion (at least the Statement Edition jersey is Christmas-colored), it seems the Wolves will be sticking to old-faithful for the game.

The reason for the change remains unknown, yet I can’t help but think maybe the durability issue with Nike’s new jerseys throughout the NBA may be a factor.

Unfortunately, the games closely following the Christmas matchup in which the Wolves were scheduled also seem to have been reclothed, with the debut now slated for February 1st against the Bucks.

The delay in debut also seems to not have encouraged more frequent wearing of the jersey afterwards, as the Timberwolves next have a wait of over two months before the jersey returns again on April 5 and 6 in a back-to-back, and then in the final regular season matchup on April 11 to round out its slated grand total of just four uses.

Personally, this seems like a waste of a jersey to me. With the jersey overhaul, I really hoped to see the Wolves in a number of different designs throughout the season, yet Wolves fans have so far only been treated to two designs on the court, and are forced to wait until the tail end of the season to catch a fleeting glimpse of the last jersey.

All I can say is I hope the Wolves and Nike have used all this time well and bring something extremely special to the table.

Unfortunately with the delay, Timberwolves fans now have to wait even longer to feast their eyes on the final jersey design. But at least, future delays permitting, The Timberwolves will be debuting their fourth jersey design on court Feb. 1.
