It has been a rough few weeks for Andrew Wiggins, whose shooting slump saw him slip to fifth position in the power rankings last week, and stay there again this time around.
It does seem like the struggles from the field that have plagued the 6-foot-8 athletic freak are finally starting to turn around, however.
Maple Jordan started off the week in disappointing shooting fashion, going just 3-12 for his 7 points, although he did chip in 5 rebounds, 2 steals and a block, these hustle plays are good news for Wiggins and the fans.
He also posted the best Defensive Rating for any starter (105.5), proving that Wiggins is working hard to be useful in other areas during his scoring drought. It was the final two games that saw Wiggins break out of his shooting slump though, even if he didn’t wow crowds with huge scoring numbers.
The Wolves wing shot 8-17 from the field (1-2 from long range) in the 9-point win over Phoenix, dropping 17 points for the game.
He backed that up with more progress on Christmas day in the marquee match-up against Los Angeles. Wiggins added 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists, nailing 7 of his 16 shot attempts including 2 triples.
The uptick in rebounding and assists are just as important as the uptick in shooting percentage for the Canadian, as he strives to improve his all-around game.
Wiggins has proven for three straight seasons that he can be an elite scorer, so don’t be surprised to see Maple Jordan burst out of this slump after a couple of confidence building games.
