Minnesota Timberwolves: 5 replacements for Jeff Teague
2. Mike James
Mike James seems to be the prohibited favorite at this point. His names being thrown recklessly around Twitter as the obvious replacement. Most of this is because fans remember what he did to the team on Nov. 26 when he lit them up for 26 points and 7 assists on 10-for-20 shooting. The other part is because he was recently released by the Phoenix Suns.
It was a cruel run for James, who was initially signed to a two-way deal with Phoenix then signed a contract for the rest of the season before being released abruptly.
Overall, his short time in Phoenix was successful, as he averaged 10.4 points and 3.8 assists. At 27-years-old he’s one of the older rookies in the league, but he’s proven he can have at least short-term success against the right teams.
At 6-foot-1, he will have trouble guarding some of the bigger points in the league, but he’s certainly proven he won’t lack effort on that end of the floor. He might be a nice guy to bring in and compete with Brooks for the backup minutes, as Brooks has been off to a slow start in the little playing time he’s received this season.
Regardless, James will be looking to get back to the NBA and fast. And this might be his one best hope.
