Minnesota Timberwolves: Mid-season report card
Shabazz Muhammad: F
Shabazz Muhammad. Oh, Bazz. How far he’s fallen since reportedly turning down a four-year, $40 million contract before the 2016-17 season. While that hasn’t worked out for Muhammad, it’s been a blessing for the Timberwolves.
After being a part of the rotation to begin the season, he played his way completely out of it during the month of November and hasn’t returned to regular minutes since. His numbers of 3.9 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 37.5 percent shooting from the field are all career lows. By far.
The slow start may have shot his confidence and made it even more difficult for Bazz to buy a bucket.
Hopefully, he regains that confidence because we’ve seen his abilities before. Although he’s far from a perfect player, he can be serviceable if put in the right position to succeed. He loves to play downhill and get out and run in transition. He can also post up smaller forwards and take bigger ones off the bounce.
The only thing that’s saving him from being a complete disaster for Minnesota is the veterans minimum contract Minnesota signed him to in the offseason.
The Timberwolves aren’t on the hook for the long-term deal they originally tried to sign him to which is great news right about now. Here’s another big fat F for Muhammad.
