Minnesota Timberwolves: Mid-season report card
Aaron Brooks: C-
I’m afraid fans have an unrealistic expectation of what Aaron Brooks can provide to the Timberwolves.
He was signed to a veterans minimum deal to be the teams third, and emergency, point guard for a reason. He’s not supposed to enter the game, play stellar defense and create open looks for himself and his teammates.
What he is supposed to do is play in situations similar to the Jeff Teague injury and make sure he doesn’t completely screw things up in the process. With Minnesota doing just fine without Teague, Brooks has stepped in admirably in the very limited minutes he’s received.
On the season, he’s averaging 2.6 points and 0.8 assists and connecting on 36.9 percent of his three-point attempts.
Ideally, we’d like to see the three-point percentage come up closer to 40, as that’s the only real advantage he can provide this team. But until he starts knocking those shots down with more consistency, his grade will continue to hover in the C minus range.
When Teague does come back, however, Brooks will go right back to the bench to cheer on his teammates. Brooks understands this and will happily go back to his spot in the cheering section and continue to mentor the younger Tyus Jones.
