5 players the Timberwolves should consider for 10-day contracts
3. Mike James – Point Guard
Mike James has shown that he has the work ethic to get better. After spending a few seasons overseas, he finally decided to come back to the United States. The Phoenix Suns signed him to a two-way contract, and later to a guaranteed contract before waiving him.
James was playing great basketball and it looked like he was going to be a solid addition to the young Suns team. All of the sudden, he found himself being the third option behind Isiah Canaan and Tyler Ulis. Once was a big part of the Suns bench, was now out of a job as of December 22nd.
He was averaging 10.4 points, 3.8 assists, and 2.8 rebounds per game. He can be a dangerous player on offense — James is practically a microwave when shooting the ball. The one issue with his style of play is that it feels as though rarely passes the ball, despite averaging almost four assists per game. It seems like he’s either picking up eight assists a night, one a night, without much in between.
James is a solid offensive player who could help any team coming off the bench. Bench scoring has surely been an issue for Minnesota as it has clearly been stated numerous times. Even though he is a good scorer, he does not have the ability to hit many threes; throughout the season he averaged 26.8 percent shooting from deep.
Minnesota has been a lot better defensively as of late, but adding James would not help them out. He’s not much of a defender, and averaged just 0.8 steals and 0.2 blocks per game. Adding James would strictly be for helping the bench find scoring output.
