7. Teague’s value is at the lowest it will ever be.
Ideally, the best time to trade a player away is when his stock is at his highest and that’s the complete opposite of the current situation with Teague. Never before has he played worse basketball and that doesn’t mean good things for the Timberwolves no matter which way you look at it.
If Minnesota were to move him now, they’d be selling ten cents for a dollar’s worth. Not great, Bob.
This low value means teams can easily try to low-ball the Timberwolves and offer them worse assets than they normally would. And because other teams are going to have the same mentality going in, Minnesota wouldn’t be able to drive up the price in a bidding war.
That spells bad news for Tom Thibodeau who wouldn’t want to get rid of the man he brought in to replace Ricky Rubio. Especially since it will mean he’s likely to get less than what he got for Rubio in the first place.
I don’t think there will ever be a time the Timberwolves will be able to trade Teague unless his play greatly improves. This may ultimately be for the best because they will need one another come playoff time.
