7 reasons the Minnesota Timberwolves shouldn’t trade Jeff Teague
6. Minnesota would have to attach additional sweeteners.
If the Timberwolves sent Teague alone in a deal, it wouldn’t net them very much as I just referenced on the last page. Instead, they’d likely have to attach additional assets to make the deal acceptable to an opposing team.
Whether this means a first-round pick, an expiring contract (which they don’t really have outside of Nemanja Bjelica) or a player on a cheap contract (Tyus Jones or Justin Patton).
Even then, there’s no guarantee that combination of players would bring them anything valuable in return.
Adding other players or assets to a Teague trade would push the Timberwolves further out of any conversations. They cannot afford to give up any more ground, as they will already be working with minimal room for mistakes due to their cap situation in the future.
So far, we have a point guard with depressed value and a trade they’d have to attach additional sweeteners to and we still have five more reasons they shouldn’t trade him. Buckle up, folks. This is going to be fun.
