Despite the fan base trembling from rumors of Derrick Rose being brought over to Minnesota, Tyus Jones is still the backup point guard as it stands, and he continues to do an admirable job in that role.
Jones was up-and-down this week, but still provided the team-calming spark he has all season off the bench. The 21-year-old started with 4 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists and a steal in the Bucks blowout.
The Minnesota native’s ability to be an on-ball thief has been huge for the Wolves this season, he continues to be an unheralded pit bull on the defensive end. Tyus Stones still sits second in defensive RPM among point guards and is now seventh overall in steal percentage.
Jones continued to be a defensive pest in the win over New Orleans, taking away two swipes on the night. It wasn’t just the defense that was clicking for him however as he scored 15 points on 6-9 shooting – his highest point total since the Nov. 29.
The shooting touch wasn’t present in Cleveland though as Jones failed to score, missing both of his field goal attempts. the ever-growing floor general did have 5 assists and 2 more steals in the loss.
Overall it was another rock-solid week for Tyus Jones, who has given fans every right to want to see more of him each and every time the Timberwolves step onto the court. Let’s pray (like really hard) that Rose doesn’t roll into town and inexplicably take his minutes.
