It was a quieter output than we are used to seeing on the court over the past week for Andrew Wiggins, although it was a historic week outside the NBA arena.
Maple Jordan became the youngest Timberwolves player ever to record 6,000 points, and sixth youngest player in league history to reach the mark. Trailing just LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony, Kobe Bryant and Tracy McGrady in the record books.
Some pretty illustrious company.
The Milwaukee win to start the week was a rare single-digit scoring effort from Wiggins, scoring just 7 points on 3-10 shooting. That is the third time this season the 22-year-old has scored 7 points, which is a season-low. In spite of not scoring well, Wiggins did chip in 6 rebounds and 3 steals – showing off his improvement in both areas.
Maple Jordan cruised seemingly unnoticed in the victory over the Pelicans, but did finish with 15 points on a steady 7-14 shooting, finishing an impressive +15 on the night.
Wiggins closed out the week on a good note, burying 7-13 from the field – including 4-8 from 3 – for 19 points in the heartbreaker in Cleveland. The former Cavalier (for about 5 minutes) was quiet early, but came alive late in regular time and overtime, hitting multiple clutch shots.
When the Canadian is clicking from behind the 3-point arc, the Timberwolves offense kicks into another gear, let’s hope the Cavs game can kick-start a run of good shooting nights for Andrew Wiggins.
