5 Players the Wolves should target in buyout market
Teams are now starting to finalize their rosters through buying out players or signing free agents. Here’s five players the Minnesota Timberwolves should look at if they’re to be bought out.
So far we’ve seen a few players that have been bought out. Some of those include Greg Monroe, Marco Belinelli, Derrick Rose and Joe Johnson. Monroe signed with the Boston Celtics, Joe Johnson will be signing with the Houston Rockets and Belinelli will be signing with the Philadelphia 76ers. There are certainly going to be plenty more players bought out, but the question is who will be. There are quite a few candidates, but imagining is different than happening.
The biggest thing that was constantly being thrown around is that teams were hesitant to trade because the buyout market was going to be hot. There are plenty of players that could help the Minnesota Timberwolves moving forward, but none that will be game-changers.
The biggest needs for Minnesota moving forward is depth, bench scoring, defense and three-point shooting. Luckily, a lot of those needs go hand in hand. You can find all of those in either a 3-and-D player or find some quality players that can help score or play defense.

If you’re not familiar with how the buyout process works, there’s a great article by SB Nation, that explains how things work. Essentially, when a player is waived by a team, this is how things run its course:
"Waivers is a 48-hour period where teams are allowed to bid on a player’s contract, and if they win the bid, that player no longer enters unrestricted free agency. Instead, he signs with the team that placed the winning bid. The team making the bid has to be able to fit the player’s existing contract into its payroll or an unused salary-cap exception."
