There’s still a lot of season left for the Minnesota Timberwolves to play, but let’s take our first peek ahead at the 2018 NBA Draft big board.

Unlike in previous years, the Minnesota Timberwolves have a lot of work to do in the regular season and the playoffs before fans even begin to turn their attention to the NBA Draft. However, you can bet your bottom dollar the scouts and front office staff are already knee-deep in wading through the draft prospects.

Although Minnesota won’t hold their own first round pick if they make the playoffs (owed to the Atlanta Hawks through the Adreian Payne trade), they will likely still have a pick having swapped Ricky Rubio for the Oklahoma City Thunder’s lottery-protected first rounder.

Considering where the Thunder’s record stands as of Sunday morning, the Timberwolves would have about the 20th overall pick. That’s not a bad spot to be in considering they would draft four-to-five spots higher if they held their own selection.

As we’ve seen, President of Basketball Operations Tom Thibodeau has been extremely hesitant to deal that pick, and rightfully so. If Minnesota can hit on that selection, they will have a great chance of acquiring a young, talented role player for four years on a cheap contract.

Before they do that, however, let’s rank the top ten prospects likely to be available at the 20th pick.
