5. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
At nearly 25-years-old, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope has his best basketball ahead of him and that’s a good thing for his next stop.
After signing a one-year, $17.7 million deal with the Los Angeles Lakers, he almost certainly won’t return to the team next year as they look to sign multiple max-contract players with their available money.
That means he will be free to search for his third team in three years.
The good news is at 6-foot-5, Caldwell-Pope can be the perfect 3-and-D guy the Timberwolves need. He can guard multiple positions and can only serve to get better with his effort and consistency on defense.
Offensively, he’s having his best career year from the outside, shooting 35.8 percent from downtown. Even though that’s only league average if he can continue to improve he could become a steal next year.
After striking a big contract last offseason, maybe he won’t be looking for so much money this time around. That might work in Minnesota’s favor or maybe they can offer him multiple years to help provide him with the financial stability he didn’t receive from the Lakers. Either way, there’s an outside shot the Timberwolves can land Caldwell-Pope.
