Continuing on with what is a trend for Wolves reserves this week, Tyus Jones didn’t quite have his best string of games over these last three.
The reserve point guard has had a mini-breakout season, well and truly pushing himself into the upper echelon of back-up one guards. Jones has made himself known as a rock solid floor general who takes good shots and doesn’t make many mistakes, but this week his 1.3 turnovers per game compared to 2.7 assists wasn’t the usual efficiency we are used to seeing.
Tyus Stones best game of the power rankings week came in Jimmy Butler’s return to Chicago, as he contributed seven points, five rebounds and three assists. Jones went 3-of-5 from the field and nailed his only 3-point try of the week. But the highlight came when he decided to get some Globetrotter action going in the third quarter:
Next time out was the Kings, and Jones put up four points, three rebounds, three assists and three huge steals. The diminutive guard had a rough shooting night but those two of those three steals came in clutch moments for the Timberwolves as they scraped past a struggling Sacramento squad.
Jones dropped a dud in the blowout loss to Houston, failing to score a point on his three shots and dishing just two helpers. Jones finished with a pretty brutal -15 plus/minus on the night, which was the worst of a pretty bad bench bunch.
Tyus Jones has shown the ability to provide a spark to the Wolves bench, and even on a bad week he still had some shining moments. He will be looking for more consistency after a much needed All-Star break.
