Grading Minnesota Timberwolves players at the All-Star break
#4 – Taj Gibson
Grade: B+
12.4 points, 57.5 field goal percentage, 22.6 3-point percentage, 7.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.8 steals, 0.8 blocks
Taj Gibson has been a great surprise this season. Initially, when he was signed to a two-year, $14 million deal, it seemed like he was a little overpaid. He then has proved everyone wrong and instead is Minnesota’s glue guy. Often times he’s the guy that’s out there cleaning up all the small mistakes, whether that be a defensive lapse, a hustle play or grabbing missed opportunities. Gibson this season has been nothing short of fantastic.
There really isn’t much to complain about when it comes to his play this year. He’s been tremendous on defense, and has been pretty solid on the offense side of things, too, even incorporating a little bit of a corner 3-point shot, too.
Gibson has shown us some great examples of good footwork down low. When he gets in the low post, we’ve seen a lot of success. Which is why his 57.5 percent from the field has been so high. In fact, Gibson ranks sixth in the NBA in field goal percentage and second among power forward. It’s just John Collins and some centers ahead of him, including Clint Capela and DeAndre Jordan, players who score a lot of there points above the rim.
Gibson isn’t usually going to be a guy who kills you on offense, but he does bring it to you every night.
