Andrew Wiggins’ temperament: Conundrum or catalyst?
By Josh Bungum
The personality spectrum
There is not one universal personality in the NBA that sets the standard for what it takes to be a star player. The recent All-Star game is a great recent indicator of this argument, as scanning each roster leads to an easy discovery of how every elite player differs in their own way.
LeBron James presents himself in a stoic, yet outgoing and supremely confident way. Joel Embiid is boisterous and personable with just about everyone he comes into contact with and has never been known to shy away from the limelight. Russell Westbrook burns with a scary level of competitiveness and comes off as somewhat prickly and abrasive to anyone outside his circle.
Andrew Wiggins, well … isn’t really any of those things. And that’s totally okay. He doesn’t need to mimic anybody or attempt to be something he is not. It’s just that his eternally laid back disposition is the cause for much criticism when his game isn’t meeting the lofty expectations that his physical gifts indicate he should.
…and don’t forget, he can still do that.
