Top 5 potential draft picks for the Timberwolves
#4 – Džanan Musa, SF
I’ve seen this one pop up as the Timberwolves’ projected pick in two mock drafts now. The 6’9″ Bosnian has played in both the Euroleague and Eurocup, and he was named the MVP of the FIBA Europe Under-16 Tournament back in 2015. The following year, Musa set the record for most points scored in a single game in the Under-17 tournament when he scored 50 points in 27 minutes.
Musa most recently played for Cedevita, a Croatian League team which won the championship last season. In 16 games, Musa averaged 10.5 points and 3.2 rebounds in 20.2 minutes per game.
While Musa’s stats don’t have the same impact that the previous prospects have had, it’s important to note Musa is playing in the top professional basketball league in Croatia, rather than college.
Thus, for a deeper insight into his game, you can check out the highlights from a 26-point outing in a national game below.
In terms of fit in Minnesota, Musa could slot into the hole left by Nemanja Bjelica should he not be returning to the Wolves, as a bench scoring option, much-needed shooter and potential starter when necessary. A reason I believe Musa could fill a starting role better than other prospects is his experience playing in a professional league, rather than college players.
How well his game can transfer from the European Leagues to the NBA is yet to be seen, but Musa’s experience should make him a potential pick that the Wolves will consider.
